The Arts Council Lake Erie West, also know as Common Space or ACLEW, is a regional not-for-profit
community arts agency serving communities of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan known as Lake Erie
West. This grass roots agency was created by artists, educators and business persons in 1983 for the
purpose of "growing the arts" in Lake Erie West. The Arts Council operates facilities under the name
Common Space in order to make the arts more accessible and user friendly.
As a regional arts agency, the Arts Council is not in competition with any other local, regional or
state arts, planning, or governmental agency. It is our intent to foster partnerships and build
working relationships with communities throughout the region. Such cooperative efforts will help the
arts build our regional community educationally, culturally and economically.
Common Space offers the 24 County Lake Erie West Region a wide array of classes in the arts: Visual
Arts, Performing Arts, and Literary Arts.

mission statement
The Arts Council Lake Erie West builds community and cultural participation by celebrating the arts and engaging residents in arts experiences.
aclew's teaching artists
All classes are taught by professional teaching artists whose years of training and experience with the arts help provide students with a style of instruction unique from other arts institutions.
aclew's teaching style
ACLEW teachers embrace a processed-centered learner based approach to arts education. This helps individuals express themselves uniquely, in a supportive environment where being different is encouraged and expected. Students are able to interpret the arts in their own personal way through the guidance of our teaching artists.
